📡 Bridging Communication Gaps with Amateur Radio – In times of emergency, reliable communication can mean the difference between chaos and coordinated response. That’s why our amateur radio group was honored to teach an Amateur Radio Basic 101 class for the Knox/East Tennessee Healthcare Coalition. This training provided essential hands-on experience with radio operations, programming, and real-world practice to help healthcare professionals stay connected when traditional communication methods fail.

Why Amateur Radio? Amateur (or “ham”) radio is a critical tool for emergency response teams, ensuring connectivity even when cell networks or internet services are down. For healthcare professionals, having a basic understanding of radio operations strengthens their ability to communicate during disasters, power outages, or other crisis situations.

What the Class Covered – Participants engaged in a hands-on learning experience, covering:

âś… How radios work and their role in emergency response
âś… Programming and operating amateur radios
âś… Practical exercises to build confidence in using radio communication

The training was designed to be interactive and beginner-friendly, ensuring that everyone, regardless of prior experience, walked away with valuable skills.

Thank You to Our Volunteers! We couldn’t have done this without the dedicated amateur radio volunteers who generously shared their time and expertise. Your passion for radio communications and emergency preparedness makes a real impact in our community. Thank you!
