Amateur Radio Accelerated Technician Licensing Class (HAM Radio Tech Class)

December 8 @ 7:50 am - 4:00 pm

Registrations are closed for this event

The amateur radio accelerated technician licensing class for health care personnel will be held at the 911 Center/EOC, 605 Bernard Avenue, Knoxville, on December 8, from 8 AM-4 PM with a test at 4PM and a Radio Operation 101 Class following the test.

This class is free and includes a free breakfast and lunch. However, you may want to bring money for vending machines for snacks. There is also a full kitchen with a microwave and you are welcome to bring your own food as well.  Coffee will be provided. You should bring $10 cash with you in case you do not pass the test the first time. See below.

There is a $10 fee for the Ham radio technician test which will be taken immediately after the class. Knox East TN Healthcare Coalition will cover this fee if you pass the test the first time. If you don’t pass the first time, you can retake the test the same day for a $10 fee.

Success in this class will be based on your preparation using the many resources available on the internet and if you specifically study the material found in the attached file. Click here for study guide: No Nonsense! 2018 Tech Class

You should be able to pass the test. Please print a free copy of the study guide for your use and bring it to the meeting. We want everyone to use this event to get a license and start their journey in the amateur radio hobby.

This event is focused on you passing the Technician licensing test. Any time you invest between now and December 8 should be spent on memorizing the questions and answers, not the multiple possible answers, just THE questions and THE answers in the document at the link listed above. Once you pass, you can continue your journey by attending radio club meetings, finding an Elmer (mentor), assisting with the once-a-month hospital net, studying and asking millions of questions.

The question pool consists of 150 questions with 35 questions selected for a test. The questions selected from the pool change each time the test is administered. A 70% correct score is required to pass. Also, the Radio Amateur Club of Knoxville gives a test the third Saturday of every month at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church on Merchants Drive in Knoxville. You must register for that test on the W4BBB website and you will be given information concerning those arrangements at this class.

Arrive at the facility at 7:50 AM, Saturday, Dec. 8.

Good luck in your pursuit. The Knoxville amateur radio community (e.g. METERS, RACK, ARES, others) will help you as you are endeavoring to attain your Technician license and beyond. To register for this class, contact Wanda Roberts, ETRHC.health@TN.gov with name, address, phone, organization and email address.

NOTE: If you plan to attend the “Radio 101: Hand’s on Help Learning How to Use Your Ham Radio” class which directly follows this licensing class, please register for it as well so we can make sure we have enough seats.  Link to Radio 101 class: http://www.ketcoalition.org/calendar/radio-101-hands-on-help-learning-how-to-use-your-ham-radio/
