Amateur Radio Accelerated Technician Licensing Class (HAM Tech Class)

March 10 @ 7:45 am - 6:00 pm

The amateur radio accelerated technician licensing class for health care and other personnel will be held at the 911 Center/EOC, 605 Bernard Avenue, Knoxville, on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 7:45 AM to 6:00 PM

Success in this class will be based on your preparation using the many resources available on the internet and if you specifically study the material located at:

http://www.kb6nu.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2014-no-nonsense-tech-study-guide-v20.pdf

you should be able to pass the test. Please print a free copy of the study guide for your use and bring it to the meeting. We want everyone to use this event to get a license and start their journey in the amateur radio hobby.

You would be well advised to continue studying after the test and eventually study for and take the General Class exam. Once you obtain that license, the High Frequency world expands for you. The equipment in the hospitals can be operated in a limited manner by Technician Class license holders. General Class license holders will be able to operate over a much broader spectrum of bands and frequencies.

This event is focused on you passing the Technician licensing test. Any time you invest between now and March 10 should be spent memorizing the questions and answers, not the multiple possible answers, just THE questions and THE answers in the document at the link listed above. Once you pass, you can continue your journey by attending radio club meetings, finding an Elmer (mentor), studying and asking millions of questions.

There is a $10 fee for the test. ETRHC will cover this fee if you are from an ETRHC member organization and you pass the test. If you don’t pass the first time, you can retake the test the same day for an additional $10 fee. The question pool consists of 150 questions with 35 questions selected for a test. The questions are selected from the pool and change each time the test is administered. A 70% correct score is required to pass. Also, if you do not pass, the Radio Amateur Club of Knoxville gives a test the third Saturday of every month at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church on Merchants Drive in Knoxville. You must register for that test on the W4BBB website and you will be given information concerning those arrangements at this class.

Be at the facility at 7:45 AM so we can get housekeeping out of the way, get you registered and begin the review. The instructors will be Barry Brown, Dave Garner, Nick Cook, and Fr. Ortiz. This teaching strategy requires them to move quickly and only pause for brief explanations as we proceed. A review will be conducted just prior to the test.

Please bring a lunch and snacks for yourself. This will save a trip off site and allow the instructors to teach while you eat. Coffee will also be provided. We will take strategically positioned stretch breaks throughout the day.

Good luck in your pursuit. METERS will help you as you are endeavoring to attain your Technician license and beyond. To register for this class, contact Jim Snyder at aj4no@comcast.net  Before March 8, 2018 you’re your name, address, phone, organization and email address. If for any reason the class must be rescheduled, you will be notified by March 9, 2018.
